YIELD

In on-coming traffic you must yield. When there is a yield sign you must yield. When the light turns yellow you should yield. You must yield or else you could hurt yourself and endanger others.

When you yield you are responding to warning and instruction. Yielding is walking in obedience, is choosing to observe and consider what is in the best interest of others.

My Friend Adam Kelley wrote this, and I thought it beneficial to share with you:

"God has laid the law upon our hearts from the very beginning (Romans 2:15), which is why we have a conscience. We all have a sense of right and wrong inside of us, even when we claim that we don’t. People have a sense of fairness and justice written inside of them which causes them indignation when they aren’t treated by what they perceive as fair or when justice isn’t served to those who they see as doing wrong. At the same time, all have turned away from the law (Psalm 14:1-3, Psalm 53: 1-3), or none of us are seeking God. While we have an idea of a right and wrong written inside of us, we still are disobedient to God’s law.

Where does that leave us then? If we’re all turning away from the law how can we choose to be different, how can we be thinking outside of the box? Again, another passage from Romans says:

A true Jew is one whose heart is right with God. And true circumcision is not merely obeying the letter of the law; rather it is a change of heart produced by God’s Spirit. And a person with a changed heart seeks praise from God, not from people. - Romans 2:29.

Looking back over this, I can see that my thoughts are convoluted and a bit disorganized. Let me summarize: if we truly want to be different or to be a rebel, we cannot do that by breaking laws, going against the grain, or rejecting authority because I believe that most people already do that. Rather, I feel that if a person wanted to be original and different, following the rules and laws to a T would be more of a rebellious thing, going against convention. God has given us all the law and it is written upon our hearts, however we naturally turn from the law at the same time. As Romans 2:29 told us, just simply following the law doesn’t make us right God, a changed heart does. Where does this change come from? By being filled with the Holy Spirit. With that change of heart comes our desire to want to follow the Law."
